Volleyball Continues Homestand with Sweep of MSU-Northern

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Argo volleyball earned their second-straight win with a sweep, 3-0, of the MSU-Northern Skylights on Wednesday evening.

The Skylights opened the match with five-straight points to grab the lead early, 0-5. The Argos responded with five of their own to tie up the match at five all. Northern outscored the Argos, 5-3, to grab the lead back at 8-10. Following two Skylight attack errors, the Argos tied the match at 10 and then scored eight more to take a commanding 18-10 lead. The dramatic run for the Argos proved to be too much as the Argos outscored the Skylights 7-6 to close out the opening set, 25-16.
 
The Argos struck first in the second set to lead, 1-0, but the Skylights responded with two of their own to flip the lead, 1-2. The two squads battled during the early part of the set to a 5-5 tie. Sparked from a service error, the Argos took four in a row to grab the lead back at 9-5. Northern put together a 6-3 to bring the match back within one, 12-11, but a kill from junior Lauren Brown sparked another Argo run to push the lead to six, 18-12. The Skylights outscored the Argos, 9-7, but the Argos close the match with a kill from sophomore Ember Schwindt to take the 2-0 lead.
 
In the final set, the Argos took the first two points from a Skylights attack error and a kill from sophomore Sydney Andersen to lead 2-0. The two squads battled as Northern brought the game back within one, 4-3, but another kill from Andersen sparked a 7-0 Argo run to push Providence ahead, 11-3. The Skylights battled back to outscore the Argos, 6-5, to decrease the deficit by one, 16-9. Freshman Cameron Davies earned a kill to spark another Argo run, 5-0, to put the Argos up 21-9. The Skylights tallied two more from a service error and a kill, but it was just not enough as the Argos added four more to close out the match, 25-11.
 
Andersen led the Argos offensively with seven kills, while teammates Davies and Averi Dyer collected six and five, respectively. Senior Paige Jensen led with a game-high 29 assists. The Argos were led defensively from senior Olivia Snead who garnered 19 digs, while teammate Davies controlled the net with seven blocks.
 
Up Next
The Argos will close out their homestand against Carroll College with a Friday night matchup at 7 p.m.
