Volleyball Claims 3-1 Win over Bulldogs

DILLON, Mont. – Argo volleyball bounced back from a loss to No. 6 Rocky Mountain to get back in the win column as they claimed a four-set, 3-1, victory over the Montana Western Bulldogs on Saturday­­­ afternoon.

The Argos and Bulldogs opened the first set trading points as the set remained tied at 6-6. The Argos opened things up after the tie as they would go on a 7-1 run to lead, 13-7. The Bulldogs would then outscore the Argos, 4-7, to bring the deficit down to three, 17-14. A kill from Melissa Gonzalez sparked another run for the Argos as they would tack on six more while the Bulldogs tallied two, 23-16. The Bulldogs attempted to close the gap, but it was too little too late as kills Gonzalez and Sydney Andersen boosted the Argos to a 1-0 advantage.
 
The second set was slow for the Argos early on as the Bulldogs grabbed a 9-4 advantage. Kelsey Shaver helped to spark a response for the Argos as they kicked it into gear to outscore Western, 8-2, to give the Argos their first lead of the set, 12-11. The Bulldogs would then score four of their own to retake the lead, 15-12. Another 8-3 Argo run put Providence up, 20-18. The Bulldogs tied things up at 20, but the Argos would only tally one more from a Shaver kill before the Bulldogs would close things out to even the match, 1-1.
 
The third set opened up to three straight Argo points, 3-0, but the Bulldogs had a four-point run of their own to take the lead, 3-4. Ember Schwindt sparked a huge 10-2 run for the Argos to take their largest lead of the match, 13-6. Western tallied four to the Argos two to bring the deficit down to five, 15-10, but the Argos close the set out on a 10-1 run to take the third set, 25-11.
 
The final set opened up to a two-point advantage for the Bulldogs, 0-2. The Argos would then tally four in a row to lead 4-2. The Bulldogs would then tie things up three times to keep things even at 6. Another kill from Shaver sparked a 6-3 run from the Argos to push the lead to 12-9. The Argos tallied six in a row, followed by four from the Bulldogs as the Argos continued to lead, 18-13. The Argos maintained their momentum to claim seven more points while Western tallied four more to secure the fourth set and the 3-1 win.

The Argos return to the McLaughlin Center as they will take on the Montana Tech Orediggers on Friday night at 7 p.m.
