OREGON CITY, Ore. – The No. 4 Argos closed out competition in the Beaver State on Sunday as they competed in the Clackamas Open, claiming three championships at 149, 165, and 197 pounds.
No. 6
Shonn Roberts claimed the 149-pound title. Following a 6-2 decision in the opening match, he claimed two straight first-period pins to advance to the semifinal match. Following a 3-3 tie after three minutes, Roberts tallied five unanswered points in the second and third period to advance to the championship. Roberts dominated in the championship as he quickly tallied a 7-1 lead before earning the final pin at the 1:30-minute mark to claim the championship.
In the 165-pound bracket, No. 2
Adrian Lyons-Lopez took the title match against a NCAA D-I opponent and captured the championship. Lyons-Lopez was dominant as he tallied three first-period pins and a 20-5 technical fall to reach the title match. Against Dillon Ulrey, Lyons-Lopez tallied two takedowns, while only allowing one escape to take a 4-1 lead early. Ulrey cut the deficit down to two after a second-period reversal, 5-3, but two escapes from Lyons-Lopez and only one takedown from Ulrey sealed the championship title.

John Hensley claimed the championship in the 197-pound weight class against an unattached NCAA D-I opponent. Following two straight fall victories, Hensley earned a clutch escape following a 2-2 tie in the final period to head to the championship match. Hensley claimed the title by medical forfeit.
In the 157-pound bracket, No. 5
Casey Dobson and
Jarren Komac claimed second and third, respectively. Dobson claimed a second-period pin and a pair of major decisions (19-11 and 9-1) in route to the first-place match against NCAA D-II San Francisco State's Mason Boutain. Following a stalemate after the opening three minutes, Dobson tallied an escape but Boutain tallied a two-point nearfall to take the lead after two, 2-1. Boutain escaped to extend his lead to two, 3-1, but Dobson earned a takedown with 30 seconds to go to tie the match up at three. However, Boutain tallied a last-second reversal to take the win, 5-3.
Komac won the opening round by a pin, but then fell to Boutain, who advanced to face Dobson in the championship. Komac tallied a second-period pin, a 7-6 tiebreaker, and a shutout 6-0 decision to place himself in the third-place match against NCAA D-I Kevin Klein of Central Washington University. After falling down by two early, Komac dominated with 17 unanswered points in route to a huge 17-2 technical fall to claim third.
In the 133-pound bracket,
Eli Walston claimed a third-place finish after falling in the third-place match. Walston fell in the opening round but rallied back scoring a 20-4 technical fall and three-straight first-period pins. Agaisnt Darth Capellan, Walston found himself down 4-1 in the first period and struggled to rally back as he ultimately fell 10-4 decision to take fourth.
Josh Becker opened up competition in the 165-pound bracket with a 10-7 decision over NCAA D-I Colton Beisley before falling in the second round to the eventual championship contender against Lyons-Lopez. Becker tallied a 14-5 major decision, a medical forfeit, and a 5-4 decision to advance to the third-place match. Becker would take fourth by medical forfeit.
Matt Hopkins placed fourth in the heavyweight bracket. Following a second-period and first-period pin, Hopkins claimed one final pin to secure a spot in the third-place match. Unfortunately, Hopkins lost by medical forfeit to claim fourth.
