Des Moines, Iowa – University of Providence Volleyball team got a split over the weekend at the Grand View tournament in Iowa. Saturday wasn't as friendly as Friday. Argos (16-5) picked up two wins Friday beating Ottawa University 3-2 and defeating Saint Ambrose University 3-1.
Saturday was a different story as the Argos battled the 4th ranked Viterbo University Saturday morning, losing 0-3 with scores of 25-23, 25-19, 25-21. All games were very close, but Argos just could not finish out each set of the match, according to head coach Arunas Duda.
In the final match of the tournament, the battle with Grand View University was very close. The match went down the stretch where some close calls didn't go in favor of the Argos, and UP lost it second match of the day. After five games, the Argos fell short in this match 26-24, 22-25, 25-21, 22-25, 14-16.
Leading the way for the Argos in the final match was senior Kelsey Shaver with 29 kills and 21 digs. Jensyn Turner put away 22 kills and 3 blocks. Coach Arunas Duda noted that Cydney Finburg-Roberts led the team in assist with 64 and picked up 13 digs.
Argos return home and will get ready for their next match when they will travel to Mt Tech to try and revenge a loss from earlier this season.
