Argos Sweep Battlin' Bears to Advance to Championship

Box Score GREAT FALLS, Mont. - The University of Providence women's volleyball team defeated Rocky Mountain College in resounding fashion (25-18, 25-21, 27-25) in the Frontier Conference Semifinals. They will face Montana Tech tonight at 7:00 p.m. for a chance to win the Frontier Conference Tournament.

In a rematch of a thrilling five-setter at the conclusion of the regular season, the 2nd seeded Argos controlled a majority of the match, spreading the wealth to several different players to secure the victory.

"I just thought our girls were really prepared," head coach Arunas Duda said. "They had a lot of confidence going in. They were just very mentally prepared from the first serve. I thought we moved the ball around really well and kept Rocky guessing for a lot of the first set. After that, we battled through it."

Kelsey Shaver led the Argos with 18 kills. She also contributed 14 digs and two blocks. Jensyn Turner also netted 12 kills and seven digs. Cydney Finberg-Roberts recorded 44 assists and 10 digs. Sacha Legros recorded 25 digs. Averi Dyer recorded 12 digs and five kills.

The Argos played in front of the loudest crowd they had seen all season. The student section was stomping all night and were quick to show the support for the Argos.

"I thought the crowd was fantastic," Duda said. "Having them behind us with the emotions is awesome. We talked about that a lot in a couple of timeouts about giving them a reason to celebrate. They helped us out and kept the momentum going."

The Argos will have only a couple hour break before they have to prepare for the championship match against Montana Tech at 7 p.m. The two teams split their regular season matches with the road team winning each time.

"It's an emotional rollarcoaster to get over the last match and prepare for the next one," Duda said. "The coaches will prepare for it and debrief them. They've got a lot of big weapons. We have to serve tough and keep them out of system. We have to limit them to one or two attackers every rotation instead of having all three, similar to what we tried to do in the last match."
