Box Score GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's basketball finished with an undefeated record in the
Bill Himmelberg Memorial Classic, defeating Northwest 89-68.
Bailey Cartwright scored 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Argos (5-1) past the Eagles.
Parker Esary scored 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds for the Argos.
Emilee Maldonado also chipped in 17 points.
"Bailey was great today," head coach
Bill Himmelberg said. "I thought Parker was really good too. Between those two, they are a really tough guard for anybody. It was fun tonight. I thought Emilee also played really well tonight. I was really pleased with the 17 assists again. We are scoring consistently in the 90 point range and getting lot of assists. That's really a good thing."
The Eagles were led by 14 points by Andie Kristinat. Lexi Biggerstaff dropped 13 points while Livi Lindsey scored 13 points.
Himmelberg was pleased with the offensive execution down the stretch, especially after sustaining a run by the Eagles that cut the lead to seven.
"When they went on a run, we responded right away and went on our own run to make it 18," Himmelberg said. "We took care of the ball and we executed. We got it back to the tempo that we wanted it. I would just like us to continue to do that."
The game also created a special moment for Himmelberg, who got to coach against a former player in Darah Vining, a former player for the Argos who played under Himmelberg.
"I love Dara," he said. "She's doing a really great job over there for Ken. It's just hard coaching against her. I love her to death and I want her to do well. It's nice to see her back in town. She's such an Argo great. She'll always have a place in my heart."
When the Argos take the court again on Dec. 5, it'll be against a Frontier Conference opponent. They'll take on Rocky Mountain College at 5:30 p.m. in the McLaughlin Center.
But for now, the Argos will enjoy the sweep in the
Bill Himmelberg Memorial Classic.
"I'm really thankful for everyone who came out for this classic," Himmelberg said. "It was a great weekend of basketball and was really special for me to be able to honor my dad. I'm really thankful."
