Calgary, Alb. - The University of Providence Women's Basketball Team went north of the 49
th parallel to take on the Dinos from Calgary, Alberta in an exhibition game. The game had some interesting challenges for UP as the Canadians play with few different rules. The shot clock is 24 seconds instead of the 30 here in the states, which in theory makes for a faster pace game. Another notable difference is the three-point line is further away from the basket than the line in the states.
In the contest, the Argos caused 16 turnovers but turned the ball over 27 times which led to their loss to Calgary 78-53. Argos where outscored in each quarter and trailed at halftime 40-32.
The top scorer for the Argos was Senior,
Bailey Cartwright with 16 points. Freshman,
Brooklyn Harn added 11 and Sophomore,
Reed Hazard chipped in 7.
"Calgary is a physical tough team, they played well. We didn't shoot the ball as well as we would have liked. We still have a lot to work on as a team and will get back at in on Monday," said Coach
Bill Himmelberg.
The University of Providence Argos will prepare for Vanguard University, California on Friday, November 8, 2019 at 530 PM and will then travel to Billings, Montana Saturday to battle MSUB at 7 PM.
