Great Falls, Mont. – In a game that featured 15 lead changes and five ties, the University of Providence women's basketball lost a close back and forth game against Vanguard University, eventually losing 70-63.
The Argos were outrebounded 46-30 in the matchup, including allowing 13 offensive boards. The home team also shot poorly from beyond the arc, going 5 for 26.
"That was a heck of a job by them on the boards," head coach
Bill Himmelberg said. "I didn't think we matched their toughness on the glass. I thought they did a great job with it. We also shot poorly from the 3-point line. You're not going to win a lot of games doing that. We had a lot of wide open good looks and we didn't make them. We're going to have to make those."
Bailey Cartwright was nearly unstoppable in the Argos, ending the night with 26 points, eight rebounds and four steals.
Jenna Randich scored 13 points and grabbed three rebounds for the Argos.
Parker Esary contributed 11 points and nine rebounds for the Argos.
"We wanted to pound it inside," Himmelberg said. "Bailey did a good job. The ball fell in her hands and she did a good job. I thought our guards did a good job of putting it in the post to her."
The Argos will have to regroup quickly, as they travel to Billings tomorrow to take on Montana State-Billings in an exhibition match.
"We didn't play very well today but we have a great group of kids," Himmelberg said. "They're going to come out ready to go tomorrow. They're going to battle. We're just going to regroup and make some shots."
