Maldonado Reaches 1000 Point Milestone

BILLINGS, Mont. - "I thought we played well, very pleased on how we took care of the ball," commented Head Coach Bill Himmelberg as the Lady Argos picked up a win in Billings defeating Mount Royal University 78-62. "I'm pleased that Emilee made the 1000-point club for the University of Providence. That makes two Argos this season to break 1000 points with a lot of season remaining," continued Coach Bill.

The game will be a memorable one for Junior point guard Emilee Maldonado as she scored 17 points in the contest for a career 1000 points.  Her teammate Parker Esary broke 1000 when she was in Arizona and now has a total of 1066. Both are looking to score more.

Emilee was asked about reaching 1000 points in her career and she responded, "It's a huge milestone to reach, but I couldn't have done it without the support of my coaches and teammates." It wasn't until the Christmas break that Emilee was told about the 1000-point club that she was so close to being in. She said at that time, "It's nice but I just want our team to do well this season."

Four Argos scored double digits. Emilee Maldonado chipped in 17 points, 5 rebounds 2 assists and 1 steal. Parker Esary added 16 points, Kerstyn Pimperton 12, and Kenedy Cartwright scored 10 for a well-balanced attack for the Argo women. Mount Royal had two players with 13 points in their effort, Abbey Gillette and Jordan Blaskin.

The Argos will wrap up the weekend in Billings before returning home January 9 for conference play taking on Montana State Northern. That game will tip off at 5:30 PM at the McLaughlin Center.
