Box Score GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Behind Darko-Kelly's 27 points, the University of Providence men's basketball team cruised to a 107-62 victory over Southern Alberta Institute of Technology Sunday afternoon.
The Trojans kept it close for a majority of the first half, getting it to 33-27 at the 7:00 minute mark. The Argos then went on a 27-6 run to take a 60-33 lead into halftime.
"If we get stops and rebounds we're very explosive on offense," head coach
Steve Keller said. "We've tried to tell them that defense is offense without the ball. We're doing a better job of that."
Five Argos scored in double figures for the Argos.
Brandon Cotton and
Dawson Fowler netted 13 points, while
Rashee Stocks and
Joel Thabize both contributed 12. As a team, the Argos recorded 27 assists, led by Darko-Kelly with six, followed by Fowler with 5 and Stocks with 4. The team also kept up it's smothering defense, forcing 24 Trojan turnovers.
"We accomplished what we needed to do," Keller said. We got up and down, we got back in a little bit of shape. These guys battled us for 14 minutes in the first half. They're athletic, they got a big guy that's really good. It's good for us to win this game before we get into conference play."
The Argos will return to conference play with a home game against Montana State Northern on January 9
