BILLINGS, Mont. – The University of Providence Women's Basketball team trailed by 24 at halftime against No. 24 Rocky Mountain College (17-10, 8-7 Frontier) but could never get a comeback going as the No. 23 Argos (17-10, 6-9 Frontier) took a 77-51 loss on Thursday evening in Billings.
Tristan Murphy lead the Argos netting a team-high 16 points, in addition to collecting three boards, an assist, and a block.
Parker Esary collected eight points, while also pulling down seven rebounds.
Four Battlin' Bears scored in double-digits with Brook Jones leading the way as she knocked down 22, while narrowly missing a double-double with eight boards. Alecia Chamberlin, Justyn Juhl, and Markaela Francis were the other three, netting 19, 15, and 10 points, respectively.
The Argos struggled with their shots on the night as they shot 25 percent from the field, going 1-for-14 from beyond the arc. Rocky shot well from the field at 58 percent and 31 percent from long-range.
Providence fell down 22-7 following the first 10 minutes of play. The Argos were able to shoot their best in the second quarter, 30. 8 percent, but the Battlin' Bears tacked on to their lead to carry a 24-point advantage into the locker room.
The Argos were never able to cut the 24-point halftime deficit against RMC lower than when
Tristan Murphy connected on a jumper to make it 60-37 with 1:33 left in the third period. The Battlin' Bears closed the period on a 4-1 run to push the lead back to 26. Rocky would lead by as much as 31 with less than five minutes to play before the Argos would end the game with a 7-2 run to put the game at its final, 77-51.
