Argos Fall Twice on Sunday to Close Out Series Against No. 10 Owls

MEDFORD, Ore. – The 10th-ranked Oregon Tech Owls (18-6) dealt Argo softball (0-4) a pair of defeats on Sunday afternoon.

GAME ONE – University of Providence 1 – Oregon Tech 17
How it Happened: The Owls got on the board at their first at-bat with a no-out solo homer to take a 1-0 lead. Oregon Tech produced a huge third inning to take an 8-0 lead. The Owls tallied their first run of the inning off an Argo error to push their lead to two. However, a pair of two-out 3-RBI home runs lifted the Owls to the eight-point lead. The Argos earned their sole run of the game in the bottom of the third. Ashlee Anderson got things going with a one-out triple to get into scoring position. Hanna Tarum plated Anderson on a Fielder's Choice to cut the deficit to seven, 8-1. Oregon Tech got across four more runners in the fourth inning as a pair of Argo errors moved across two runners and an Owl 2-RBI single plated the other two to put them up by 12, 13-1. The fifth inning saw four more runs for the Owls as a sacrifice fly and the Owl's fourth home run of the game would plate three more to the game's eventual 17-1 ending.

At the Plate: Anderson led the Argos with a pair of hits, going 2-for-3 and the Argos sole run of the game. Karlie Southworth was perfect at the plate connecting on her one at-bat as she pinch hit for Hannah VanDomelen. Olivia Warren, Taylor Mathews, and Hanna Tarum tallied the Argos other hits during the contest.

In the Circle: VanDomelen (0-2) pitched a complete game for the Argos, taking the loss as she allowed 17 runs on 13 hits through five innings pitched and tallying a season-high three strikeouts.

GAME TWO – University of Providence 0 – Oregon Tech 10
How it Happened: Oregon Tech opened things up with a two-out 2-RBI home run to take a 2-0 lead. The Owls broke things out in the second inning. With the bases loaded, Schweikert walked a batter to plate the Owls third run of the contest. An Argo error would give the Owls a 4-0 lead. The Owls closed the inning on some productive at-bats as a pair of singles would put across three runs, followed by a 2-RBI double to give Oregon Tech a 9-0 lead. The Owls would plate one more runner in the third inning on a passed ball to push the game to its eventual 10-0 finish.
