Argos Drop Series Opener Against Yotes

CALDWELL, Idaho – Argo softball was held scoreless against the College of Idaho Yotes on Tuesday at Symms Field.

Game 2 was suspended during the opening frame due to rain. The Argos (0-5, 0-4 CCC) held a 1-0 lead following a leadoff homer from Taylor Mathews.

The game remained scoreless through the middle of the second. The Yotes got on the board first in the second as a missed flyball led to the Yotes first run of the day, 1-0. A hit by pitch in the third would load the bases for the Yotes with no outs before an RBI-single and a Fielder's Choice would give College of Idaho a 3-0 lead through three. In the fifth inning, the Argos struck the leading batter out, but a hit by pitch would put one on base with one out. After advancing to second on a wild pitch, the Yotes would earn an RBI-single to push their lead to four, 4-0. The Argos would tally a second out, but the Yotes fifth batter smashed a 2-RBI home run to give College of Idaho a 6-0 lead that would stay through the following two innings.

At the Plate: Taylor Mathews and Ashlee Anderson would both tally a run for the Argos, going 1-for-3 on the day.

In the Circle: Brieanna Clifford would take the loss, pitching five innings and allowing six runs on six hits and earning three strikeouts. KJ Schweikert cleaned up for the Argos, taking over in the final half-inning.

The Argos will finish the series against the College of Idaho at 2 and 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The fourth game of the series was cancelled due to game 2's postponement.
