Argos Score Double-Digits as they Split Doubleheader with Beacons

EUGENE, Ore. – The Argos scored a season-high 10 points during game 2 of their doubleheader against the Northwest Christian Beacons to split Friday's games in Eugene, Oregon.

GAME ONE – University of Providence 2 – Northwest Christian 4
How it Happened: The Argos had five batters step up to the plate in the top of the first, earning a double to advance a runner to third, but couldn't punch one home to remain scoreless. Following a single, a sacrifice bunt, and a stolen base, the Beacons got on the board first as a one-out RBI-single would punch Garner home, 1-0. Northwest Christian would tally one more in the period on a one-out double to take a 2-0 lead. The Argos would open the bottom of the second with a pair of outs before walking the third batter of the inning. Following a pair of steals, a two-out single would bring the runner home to give the Beacons a 3-0 after two. The game remained 3-0 headed into the fifth inning. The Argos kicked things into gear in the fifth. Following the first out, Samantha Hernandez doubled to center field to get a runner into scoring position. Ashley Wood came in to pinch hit for Ashlee Anderson, connecting on an RBI-double of her own to plate the Argos first run of the game, 3-1. Taylor Mathews followed Anderson with a single and a Beacons' error plated Wood to cut the Argos' deficit to one, 3-2. The Beacons opened the sixth with a double, before a one-out single would plate another run for the Beacons and push the lead back to two, 4-2. The Argos would take a walk with the first at-bat of the seventh, but three-straight outs would close out the game.

At the Plate: Hernandez and Wood led the Argos at the plate going 1-for-2 and 1-for-1, respectively, while also tallying the Argos two runs. Anderson earned the Argos sole RBI on the day, while Olivia Warren and Mathews earned the Argos other two hits.

In the Circle: Hannah VanDomelen pitched a complete game, going allowing four runs on seven hits over six innings pitched. She put out three batters, while also walking three.

GAME TWO – University of Providence 10 – Northwest Christian 8
How it Happened: The Beacons got on the board first in the bottom of the opening frame after loading the bases following a wild pitch to take a 1-0 lead. The Beacons extended their lead in the second as a two-out walk would load the bases, before another walk would plate a runner to make it 2-0. The Beacons would tally a 2-RBI single to take a 4-0 advantage, before one more walk and wild pitch would push the Beacons lead to five, 5-0. The third inning was a different story. The Argos loaded the bases and Hanna Tarum tallied an RBI single and Mathews would score on an error to cut the deficit to three, 5-2. Karlie Southworth connected on a single to bring another runner home to make it 5-3. Warren followed Southworth's at-bat with a single of her own and a Beacon error brought three Argos home to give the Argos their first lead of the game, 6-5. The Argos would tally three more runs on an error, a sacrifice fly, and a double from VanDomelen to take a four-point lead, 9-5.
