Great Falls, Mont. -The Argos women's soccer team responded to home-opening loss with a 3-0 shutout victory over Evergreen State.
The Argos started aggressviely, hitting the crossbar twice in the early minutes of the game. They got on the board after
Shawnae Inama played a beautiful pass to
Eme McLaughlin who put it in the back of the net in the 20th minute. They got a two goal lead after
Isa Ortman sank a deep shot in the 33rd minute. In the second half, McLaughlin found the back of the net again after a pass from
Soraya Alfaro to solidify the 3-0 lead and complete the first shutout of the season.
"It was good to bounce back," head coach
Brian Clarke said. "I was really proud of the resiliency to come back and play today."
McLaughlin had another offensive explosion. Her two goals today make her total count 10, the leader of the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
"Eme put a couple away and a couple more she probably should have put away," Clarke said. "I thought she did really well.
Ashlee Howell also had a really good game on the back line. They had some opportunities to counter and she really snuffed those out and was solid for us that whole game. She played very well. Even though Ashlee and Eme stood out, it was an all-around effort to get a shutout."
The Argos have a short week. They'll practice Monday and Tuesday before their schedule takes them to Oregon Tech next Friday.
"We'll clean up a few things that we want to do better and continue to grow," Clarke said.
