Helena, Mont. – The University of Providence golf teams wrapped up their rounds at the Carroll College Invite on Tuesday. Both the men's and women's team finished with a 5th place finish.
On the men's side, Rocky Mountain College took the victory shooting 16 over par. Lewis & Clark finished second (+46), Montana Tech finished third (+66), Carroll finished fourth (+78), Providence finished fifth (+98), followed by Montana State Northern (+249).
"The guys started off hot and quickly cooled down," head coach
Spencer Williams said. "I think we're capable of doing much better."
Ben Kaul, who started the day in 5th place, led the Argos with a 12th place finish (+14). Jonny Ceilak (+16) finished tied for 14th,
Keaton Sunchild (+31) finished tied 26th, and
Derek Wolff (+37) finished 29th. Daniel Sigurjonsson of Rocky Mountain College led the field with a -1.
"I'm really happy with senior Johnny Cielak who came back and shot a 69 after struggling in the first two rounds," Williams said. "It really shows his character of never giving up."
On the women's side, Lewis and Clark State won shooting 40 over par. Rocky Mountain took second with 71, Montana Tech took 3rd with 103, then Carroll with 106, followed by Providence with 198.
"The women struggled a little at Green Meadow," Williams said. "It's pretty tight with lots of trouble off the tee. But we made some good progress towards what we need to do differently for the next tournament."
Casey and Catrina Babinecz tied each other at 236 above par to tie for 22nd overall, the highest finish on the Argos.
Aliya Morrow (+57) finished 33rd while Sydney Keller (+69) finished 34th. Madilyn Brown of Lewis and Clark led the field with a +5.
Both teams will next compete at the Lewis and Clark Invite in Lewiston, ID on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
