GREAT FALLS, Mont. – In a night where nobody seemed to be able to get going,
Brandon Cotton scored 25 points to lead the #8
th University of Providence men's basketball team to a 74-66 victory over #9 Carroll College Saturday night.
"Brandon kept us in the game tonight," head coach
Steve Keller said. "If he didn't have all those threes in the first half we would have been down a lot. He made some tough shots at the rim as well when we needed a bucket. This was the biggest game of the year from him and we absolutely needed it. I'm proud of him tonight."
Cotton also had five assists on the evening.
Zaccheus Darko-Kelly finished with 14 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists and five steals.
Dawson Fowler added 12 points, 9 rebounds and four assists. Dane Warp led the Saints with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
"We struggled shooting wise and we found a way to win," Keller said. "That's what good teams do. We gave up 45 the first half and 21 the second half. We got down and guarded. Dawson did a great job defending Warp in the second half. Jaxen doesn't get a lot of attention but he was all over the court making plays tonight. It was a good team effort."
The win gives the Argos sole possession of second play in the conference. They'll return to action Friday night at 7:30 against Montana Tech.
"Tonight was a huge win," Keller said. "There's a lot of games to go, but six out of our next ten are at home. It's going to be grind."
