GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Derrius Collins hit a layup with 2.9 seconds left to give Montana Tech an 82-80 over the 8
th ranked University of Providence men's basketball team Friday night.
Montana Tech shot 60% in the first half to give themselves a 46-36 lead at the half. The Argos brought it back to even twice in the second half, but had to play the final minutes without
Zaccheus Darko-Kelly and
Jaxen Hashley who had both fouled out.
"We weren't ready to play tonight," head coach
Steve Keller said. "We got in foul trouble and we have two of our best players sitting out. And we still had a chance to end. All we needed to do was get a rebound in that last second. We didn't get the rebound and they got the putback."
"For most of the game they played better," he said. "They probably deserved to win. We still had a chance. It was a tough game but they're good. Our guys have to show up every game. We can't be down ten at half like we have been the last two games. But you have to give our guys credit for hanging around. We had a chance to win. We just have to make some plays."
The Argos will hit the floor again Saturday evening when they take on #12 Lewis-Clark State at 7:30 p.m. in the McLaughlin Center.
