Argo Basketball Tabbed As Conference Favorites in Preseason Poll

WHITEFISH, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball team was picked to win the Frontier Conference in the preseason poll released Monday morning.

"We're excited that we got some respect from the other teams around the league," head coach Steve Keller said. "It shows that our program is growing and gaining some respect along the league. Now it's on us to go out and prove it."

The Argos received four first-place votes and received a total of 23 points. Carroll received two first-place votes and had a total of 22 points. Montana Tech finished third with 17 points and Montana State–Northern finished fourth with 14 points. Rocky Mountain (9 points) and Montana Western (5 points) rounded out the conference.

"Any one of our six teams can beat anybody on any given night," Keller said. "That's how close our league is. It's a nice honor, but we know we're going to have to bring it every night to have success in this league."

Providence are coming off a 24-8 (11-7 in conference) season and a third-place finish in the conference standings behind Carroll and Lewis-Clark State. They lost to Carroll in a tightly-contested conference semi-final matchup last season. They received a 4-seed in the National Tournament before the remainder of the season was canceled due to COVID-19.

The 2020-21 schedule was released last week. The Argos will play a 20-game conference schedule, beginning with a Jan. 4 trip to Butte to face off against Montana Tech.
