GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Eight members of the University of Providence men's soccer team were named
Academic All-Conference by the Cascade Collegiate Conference earlier this week.
Leo Almedia (business administration),
Andrew Davey (computer science),
Manu Garcia (business administration),
Gudmundur Gudmundsson (accounting),
Daniel Huseby (business administration),
Cole Koenig (business administration),
Paulo Leonardo (business administration/accounting) & Joel Samoya (accounting) were all recognized.
To be nominated for a CCC Academic All-Conference award, a student-athlete must have a GPA over 3.2 and be a sophomore academically.
"It shows the hard work that the players are putting in," interim head coach
Danny Burstein said. "It's a reward for their efforts. Given the amount of players that we currently have on our roster, eight is a pretty good number."
Burstein is particularly proud of the way his team has handled the adjustment from in-person learning to online instruction.
"It's very commendable that a lot of our players aren't having difficulties with the situation," he said. "For the most part, they have a firm grasp on what online school requires and the greater school versus life balance. This type of learning isn't for everyone. They're putting their nose down and getting their work done."
