CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference Council of President's voted to delay the start of all conference fall sports with the hopes of conducting seasons in the winter/spring of 2021 the league office announced today, Friday July 17, 2020.
Â
Additionally, outside competition in
all CCC sports is suspended until at least November 1st and will be reevaluated at that time. Schools will have autonomy to conduct practices, weight training, conditioning and other team activities in accordance with campus, local and state policies, as well as, the NAIA approved 24-week period.
Â
The University of Providence has five sports in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, Men's & Women's Wrestling, Softball, and Men's & Women's Soccer.
Â
This decision will affect two sports with the University of Providence in Great Falls, Men's and Women's soccer. The other sports will not be affected as of yet because of their regular seasons.
Â
For the University of Providence, we acknowledge that this is a disappointment for our students, coaches, staff, fans and many others.
Â
The decision is an expression of how we and the CCC are committed to ensuring the safety of our student athletes, staff, faculty and wider community.
Our coaches are actively reaching out to our student athletes to communicate that they still have their place and scholarship on their team, despite the decision from the CCC.
Â
The objective for the University of Providence is to still open in August for the fall semester, but will continue to monitor the situation and the risk associated with COVID-19.
Â
Committees made up of sport coaches and administrators throughout the league will begin working on what the revised schedules will look like, as well as, setting standard start dates for each sport to begin practices.
Â
If the NAIA were to make the decision to move fall sport championships to the spring the CCC will have the ability to opt right back into the NAIA revised structure and will adjust schedules accordingly.
Â
No decisions were made regarding delaying the winter sports of men's/women's basketball or men's/women's wrestling at this time. The league will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and if necessary, winter sports could be adjusted as well.
