WHITEFISH, Mont. – The Frontier Conference announced Monday that University of Providence women's basketball player
Parker Esary was named the Frontier Conference Player of the Week.
In four games this week, Esary, who was named the
Frontier Conference Preseason Player of the Year, averaged 19.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting a whopping 71.1% from the field. She recorded a double-double in her first game of the season, scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds to
beat Montana Tech, and tied her career-high Sunday afternoon when she scored 28 points to lead the Argos to an
overtime win over #6 Carroll. Currently, Esary is ranked third in the nation in field goal percentage (71.1%).
"She's pretty amazing," head coach
Bill Himmelberg said. "She had to play her way back into game shape. She came back to campus in shape but game shape is a whole different deal. I'm pretty proud of the effort that she's able to put out."
This is the seventh Frontier Conference Player Award for Esary's career. She was one of four different Argos who won the award last season. Two of the other players who have won the award,
Kenedy Cartwright and
Emilee Maldonado, have returned to the team this season.
"Parker is really big for us," he said. "Having her and Emily together is just a one-two punch that nobody else in the league really has. It makes us really hard to guard. We needed her to be really special last night and she was."
The #25 Argos split both double-headers this week, resulting in a 2-2 record. They'll host Rocky Mountain College on Saturday and Sunday this weekend.
As of now, the Frontier Conference is under a no-spectator policy due to COVID-19. No fans will be permitted to the McLaughlin Center for the games this weekend. You can stream all games FOR FREE at www.upargos.com.
