Five Players Score in Double Figures as Argos Take Down Firestorm

GLENDALE, Ariz. – The University of Providence women's basketball team picked up their second straight victory Wednesday evening, taking down Arizona Christian 80-68 in Glendale.

Five players scored in double-figures for the Argos (2-1), led by Emilee Maldonado who recorded 21 points, seven rebounds, six assists and six steals for her squad. Parker Esary and Brooklyn Harn added 17 points for the team, a career-high for Harn. Reed Hazard notched her first career double-double, recording 11 points and 11 rebounds while Maddy Dixon also added 11 points.

"We're hard to guard when five different girls score like that," head coach Bill Himmelberg said. "It speaks for our team. We don't care who scores because everyone is capable."

"Brooklyn did a heck of a job," Himmelberg continued. "We know she's pretty good, but it was kinda a coming out party for her tonight. She's been playing well the last couple of games, starting last year at the National Tournament and now it's carried over. She's a consistent performer and playing really well. It's fun to see."

As a team, the Argos shots 41.9 % from the field in the win. The team kept up their energy on the boards, outrebounding the Firestorm (0-1) 47-35 on the night.

The Firestorm were led by Alyssa Alvarez, who scored 18 points on the night. Kaycee Brown added 12 while Sophia Martinez notched 10.

The team will spend Thursday traveling to San Diego, Calif., as they prepare for a double-header this weekend in the final stop of their four-game road trip. The squad will take on a stout San Diego Christian team Friday night, followed by a game against St. Katherine's to conclude the road trip.

"The big thing is getting some rest tomorrow during our travel day to San Diego," Himmelberg said. "We have to make sure we have energy and that we follow the game plan. It's not going to be easy. These teams are really good. We took care of two games this road trip so we have half of our job done. I like how our team is playing right now. Hopefully we can find a way to get a couple more."
