SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The University of Providence women's basketball team remains undefeated so far on their four-game road trip, taking down San Diego Christian 80-63 Friday night. The Argos (3-1) will play their fourth and final game of the trip against St. Katherine on Saturday.
"We're playing really well right now," head coach
Bill Himmelberg said. "It was a good team win. We were moving the ball, sharing the ball. I'm really happy with how the kids played."
The Argos got out to a quick start, jumping on the Hawks early in the first half en route to a 43-24 halftime lead. The team never looked back, keeping their foot on the pedal on the way to 80-63 final.
Emilee Maldonado led the way for the team, recording 18 points and nine assists in 38 minutes of action.
Brooklyn Harn continued her hot streak, also recording 18 points, including four made three-pointers.
Maddy Dixon added 13 points while
Reed Hazard notched 12. As team, the Argos shot 51.7% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc.
"Brooklyn's playing really well right now with 18 points and of course you have Emilee with 18 points and nine assists," Himmelberg said. "Parker was in a lot of foul trouble and only played 16 minutes. Elly did a nice job holding her own coming off the bench."
Keren Hogue led the Hawks (0-1) with 13 points while Madison Beckham and Isabel Feller each added 11.
The Argos will plan to continue their winning streak tomorrow, when they wrap up their road trip against St. Katherine in what will be the team's fourth game in six days. The game will tip off at 8:00 p.m. MTN.
"We're tired right now but we set this up on purpose," Himmelberg said. "We wanted to simulate the National Tournament, with a lot of games and not a lot of time in between. We're setting ourselves up to see how our bodies feel and see how we're going to react. The girls understand what this is about and we're going to do our best to make sure we're ready to go. We're locked in and focused. I feel pretty good about it."
