GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's basketball team will hope to extend their six-game winning streak this weekend during a three-game road trip in Washington. The Argos will take on Evergreen State and Northwest in the Northwest Classic before finishing up against Puget Sound on Sunday.
The Argos (6-1) are coming off
a weekend sweep against Central Baptist and Corban. The team played pretty solid spurts, but the coaching staff is still challenging the team to put a complete, full game together, something they believe hasn't happened yet this season.
"Winning hides a lot of things," head coach
Bill Himmelberg said. "Right now we're going to continue to get better in practice. I hope our girls are ready to go for this. We have a lot to learn. We have a lot to get better at as we move forward here."
The coaching staff doesn't know much about the Geoducks (0-0), the first team scheduled for the weekend. They haven't played a game so far on the season, and took last year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They're a little more familiar with Northwest and Puget Sound, with both requiring drastically different game plans.
"Evergreen we don't know anything about at all," Himmelberg said. "We're going in there kind of blind. Northwest has a good coach who has a good program every year. They got some size and can shoot it. Puget Sound is going to be smaller than us and provide some mismatches that we have to be ready for. We're going to have to be ready to defend on the perimeter against them. It's a different style than what we're used to defending."
The team knows how big of a road trip this. The first NAIA National Poll will come out next week, and the team has a chance to be 9-1 by the time that ranking comes out.
"We need to be good on the road," Himmelberg said. "We're going to have to play when we're tired and on the road in an unfamiliar environment. That's only going to help us come conference and the National Tournament. Hopefully we can find some success."
The game against the Geoducks will begin at 6:30 p.m. MTN. on Nov. 12.
