KIRKLAND, Wash. – The University of Providence women's basketball team raced out to their eighth straight win Saturday evening, defeating Northwest 64-40 in Kirkland, Wash.
Three players scored in double-figures for the Argos, led by
Parker Esary, who finished with 14 points and four rebounds.
Maddy Dixon was a rebound short of a double-double, notching 13 points and nine boards.
Brooklyn Harn also had a solid performance, finishing with 13 points and six rebounds.
"It was good game tonight," head coach
Bill Himmelberg said. "I'm really proud of the kids for gutting it out. Maddy, Parker and Brooklyn were the three big ones today. Emilee took care of the ball and got us into our stuff. We really executed our stuff tonight."
The game however was decided by the team's defense. The Argos locked up the Eagles top-scorer, Sam VanLoo, holding her to only two points on the night. They also did a great job of defending the Eagles front-court, who were considerably taller than the Argos.
"They're a tough team with a lot of size," Himmelberg said. "We did our job defending that and did a decent job defending the post a little bit. It was a nice job by our girls in the post."
The Argos will complete their road trip tomorrow with a game against Puget Sound. The game will tip-off at 2:00 p.m. MTN.
"Tomorrow will be the big test for us," Himmelberg said. "They're pretty good. We're going to have to come ready to go if we want to finish this trip the way we want. We'll enjoy tonight but then be ready and focused to move on tomorrow."
