TACOMA, Wash. – The University of Providence women's basketball team fell to Puget Sound, an NCAA Division III school, in Tacoma, Wash. on Sunday 75-67.
The Loggers (3-1) made 15 three-pointers in the win, shooting 38.5% from beyond the arc. The Argos (8-2) only managed six three-pointers on the day, shooting 23.1%.
"We ran into a hot shooting team," head coach
Bill Himmelberg said. "They shot the crap out of it tonight, especially from the three-point line. They just shot the ball really well. We were a little bit tired and didn't shoot it as good. We were right there. We just didn't make as many baskets as we needed too and didn't shoot very well."
Parker Esary led the Argos with 20 points on the game while
Emilee Maldonado recorded 15 points and six assists on the afternoon.
Maddy Dixon and
Brooklyn Harn both added 11 points for the Argos.
The Loggers had five players in double-figures, led by Samantha Swartout, who finished with 16 points. Sophie Nilsson added 11.
"It was just a tough one," Himmelberg said. "They presented some size mismatches that we were worried about. Overall there's a lot we can take from it. It was a good experience to come through and do that. That's why you play the non-conference, to get better."
The Argos will return home on Friday, when they host Our Lady of the Lake at 3:00 p.m. in the McLaughlin Center.
