Argos to Kick Off Season with Pair of Duals in Wyoming

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – After hosting an intra-squad scrimmage on Tuesday, the University of Providence men's wrestling team will kick off the season on Saturday with a pair of road duals.

The Argos will first take on Northwest at 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning, followed by a dual against Western Wyoming at 10:00 a.m. Both duals will take place in Powell, Wyo.

"I think the team is really excited to get going," head coach Steve Komac said. "Beating up on each other gets old pretty fast. They're really excited to get on the road and get going."

The Argos are coming off a successful intra-squad scrimmage Tuesday night, where the team split into two teams and competed against each other. The coaching staff was pleasantly surprised with how competitive a majority of the matches ended up being.

"We like a lot of the things we saw at the intra-squad scrimmage," Komac said. "The kids were aggressive, the kids were trying to score. We had tons of highly-contested matches which speaks to the depth we had in the room. That's a good thing."

The team will hope that the preseason and the intra-squad scrimmage will set them up nicely for the pair of duals, where the team is expecting some quality competition. Western Wyoming, who the team will wrestle second, is currently the third-ranked junior college in the nation.

"We're going to see two very good teams," Komac said. "They have a pile of kids that are ranked nationally. We're going to see some really stiff competition that we think will be really good for us. We're either going to feel like we're in a good place or we'll find out that we'll have a lot of work to do real fast."
