Argos Top Mountaineers on Second Night of Doubleheader

11/6/2021 9:55:00 PM

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball team got their revenge on Saturday night, defeating the Seattle Mountaineers, a semi-professional team, 81-75.

The Argos had a putrid first half, shooting 25.7% from the field and shooting 2 of 14 from beyond the arc. Trailing by 12 with 5:35 left, the Argos made a late run to cut the score to 30-24 entering the break.

The team fought back in the second half, quickly regaining the lead just minutes after the break. Marcus Stephens played a big part of that, scoring 22 of his 24 points in the second half as the Argos shot 71.4% from the floor as a team, including shooting 6 of 12 from three-point range.

"I thought defensively we were really good," head coach Steve Keller said. "We bothered them with their on-ball stuff. Offensively we were horrible the first half. We couldn't make shots on our good looks. Second half I thought we got to the rim a little bit more."

Stephens led the team with 24 points, five rebounds and four assists. Rashee Stocks and Elijah Oliver both added 15 points for the Argos. Colby Jackson led the Mountaineers (4-3) with 18 points.

"We didn't play well to start the game," Keller said. "But we found a way to win. These games helped us big time. They were super athletic and big and we had to try and rebound with them. We did a much better job on the boards tonight than we did last night."

The team will return to action next Friday with a road game against Lewis-Clark State. That game with the Warriors will begin on Nov. 12 at 8:00 p.m.
