Thorne Named Attacker of the Week for the Fourth Time this Season

WHITEFISH, Mont. – For the fourth time this season, Jenna Thorne has been named the Erck Hotels Frontier Conference Attacker of the Week.

The sophomore from Karitane, New Zealand led the team in kills in both games this week, recording 17 against Carroll and 15 against Rocky Mountain on Saturday. For the week, she averaged 4.0 kills per set on a .256 hitting percentage.

"I thought she did a tremendous job this week," head coach Arunas Duda said. "She really carried us in that Carroll match and then did the same thing against Rocky. She had a really good matchup against their smaller setter and was able to put the ball away for us, especially down the stretch."

This is the fourth time that Thorne, who transferred from Hutchinson Community College, has been named the Frontier Conference Player of the Week this season. She currently leads the conference in kills per set (3.48), is fourth in total kills (299) and fifth in hitting percentage (.243). The coaching staff is most impressed however with her ability to rise in big moments.

"She just always want to improve and work hard and do better," Duda said. "She gets along with everyone on the team. She keeps things fun and light-hearted. She doesn't take it too seriously so I don't think the pressure gets to her very much. She just lets it roll right off her shoulder and swings at the next ball."

Duda will hope she brings her best performance this weekend, when Thorne and the team will compete at the Frontier Conference Tournament on Friday. The Argos, who earned a bye in the first-round by clinching the top seed, will play in the semifinals at 5:00 p.m. on Friday in Helena, Mont. They will play the lowest remaining seed of the two opening round games.

"I really want us to start playing our best," Duda said. "We really want to be challenged this weekend. That's the way the National Tournament is going to go. I really hope there is some good volleyball like there was this last week. I thought that did a great job to prepare us for the conference tournament."
