GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Fans of the University of Providence women's wrestling team will have one of the few chances to see the team compete, when the Argos take the mat Friday morning for the Battle of the Rockies Tournament.

The tournament will begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday morning in the McLaughlin Center. The team will also host a dual against Southern Oregon at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. This weekend will be the last time the Argos will compete at home until the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament on Feb. 27.

"I'm excited to host our own tournament," head coach Matt Atwood said. "It'll be good to be at home. I haven't had a tournament here before with the Covid stuff last year. It's good for the girls to be able to compete at home. All of our travel is outside of the state, so I think the girls will be happy to stay at home for the weekend."

The Battle of the Rockies tournament will feature a total of six teams; Big Bend, Colorado Mesa, Gray's Harbor, Simpson and Southern Oregon will all be making the trip to Great Falls. The tournament will provide experience for the Argo team as they look to bolster their profile heading into the new year.

"We're looking forward for the girls to get some matches in," Atwood said. "Them being able to get some matches in front of their friends, in front of our community here at the school is pretty big. In our program's history there haven't been a lot of competitions for the student body to get to see. I hope a lot of our students come out and support the girls."

The team will conclude the weekend with a highly-anticipated dual against Southern Oregon, the top team in the CCC, on Saturday night. It will be the first dual for the Argos on the season.

"Hopefully we can put our best foot forward," Atwood said. "I do think that we have a really good shot to beat Southern Oregon. They're the top team in our conference so that would be really big for us. They're probably a Top 5 team in the country."
