GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's basketball team looks to get back on track this weekend with a pair of games against Montana Tech.
After suffering a
lopsided defeat to Montana Western on Wednesday, the Argos (4-4, 4-4) have spent the last two days watching film.
"We're trying to clean up some stuff," head coach
Bill Himmelberg said. "We're just trying to get on the same page so that we're all ready to go."
The Argos (4-4, 4-4) will have a tough challenge ahead with the Orediggers (4-10, 4-10). The two teams are famaliar with each other, as the two split their doubleheader when the season opened back in January.
"We've improved and gotten better and better," Himmelberg said. "The thing is, they got better and better too. They have a good coach. It's going to be battle there's no question about it. I expect them to be close games."
The Argos will lean on
Parker Esary and
Emilee Maldonado, two players that have both already been recognized as the Frontier Conference Player of the Week so far this season. The duo are ranked second and third in the conference and scoring, but both were slowed down on Wednesday vs. the Bulldogs. The duo combined to score 18 points, well below their season average of 32.
The Orediggers lead a balanced attack, led by Dani Urick and Mesa Williams, who are both averaging 10.1 points per game. The Diggers have a total of six players that average over seven points a game, with all of them capable producing a big night.
"They have solid players," he said. "They're good top to bottom. It's going to be a battle. We're going to have to take care of the basketball and make sure we execute offensively. The big thing is we take care of ourselves and all be on the same page."
