BUTTE, Mont. – The University of Providence volleyball team got another big time road victory Friday night, defeating Montana Tech in five sets, 25-22, 18-25, 25-20, 16-25, 15-10.
The two teams battled back and forth in the fifth set, with neither team leading by more than two points until 10-10. The Argos rattled off five straight points to secure the win.
"Obviously we came together and played well when we needed too," head coach
Arunas Duda said. "I'm glad we pulled this one out."
The Argos (13-2, 13-2) survived continuous attacks from the Orediggers (6-8, 6-9). Karina Mickelson recorded 24 kills, Maureen Jessop notched 12 kills while Sydney Parks had 10.
"I thought we had a hard time slowing down their outsides," Duda said. "Their middles were very effective against us today. We were just a step slow on defense today. We'll bounce back tomorrow and play harder and a little bit smarter."
Cydney Finberg-Roberts led the team with 55 assists and six digs.
Sacha Legros led the way defensively, recording 32 digs while
Taylor Christensen had 13.
Sadie Lott paced the way offensively for the Argos, recording 18 kills and 20 digs.
Renae Davis recorded 17 kills, while
Adysen Burns notched 11.
The two teams will square off tomorrow at 1 p.m.
"We need to make quite a few adjustments," Duda said. "We need to block better. We can't let their middles go off and allow their outsides to go off. We'll make some adjustments there and switch some things around defensively. If we can eliminate a lot of our errors, we should be okay."
