GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence looked like they were in postseason form Friday night, defeating Montana State-Northern in three sets 25-15, 25-18, 25-13.
The win marks the 13th straight victory for the Argos (15-2, 15-2). The squad started the season 2-2, and has since rattled off 13 straight victories.
Sacha Legros led the way for the Argos on Friday with 32 digs, while
Sadie Lott recorded 17. Lott, along with
Renae Davis, led the way on the attacking side with 12 kills each. Both were incredibly efficient as well, with Davis recording a .500 hitting percentage and Lott recording a .440 hitting percentage.
Adysen Burns finished with nine kills,
Jensyn Turner finished with eight and
Ember Schwindt finished with six.
"I was really pleased with how all our hitters really stepped up and really did a good job of limiting our errors and putting the ball away," head coach
Arunas Duda said. "It definitely started in the middle. We definitely ran a lot of things in the first set or two up the middle and that opened up the pins."
Cydney Finberg-Roberts was her usual dominant self, recording 43 assists, eight digs and four kills for the Argos. Duda was pleased with how she not only executed the game plan, but adjusting to what the Lights were doing defensively.
"Fin did a really good job of finding our middles quick and attacking seams in transition," he said. "Then she started hitting the balls to the pins when the blockers were stacked in the middle. I thought she did a good job of picking them apart here and there. She found the one on one matchups all night."
"She had a good feel for what was going on on the other side of the court," he said. "That's just her preparation. She knew who to find and who to pick on a little bit. She did a great job."
The Lights (2-15, 2-15) were led by setter Emily Feller who recorded 26 assists on the evening. Rylee Burmester recorded nine kills while Elissa Lind recorded seven. Burmester led the way defensively with 18 kills. Shania Neubauer recorded 14 digs while Feller notched 11.
The two teams will compete again tomorrow at 1 p.m. The night will double as senior night for their two seniors –
Renae Davis and
Ember Schwindt.
"We expect them to play good defense," Duda said. "We expect them to come up fired up and ready to go. We just have to weather the storm a little bit and keep attacking."
