Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Argos Fall to Saints in Tightly-Contested Senior Day Match

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's soccer team fell to Carroll 1-0 in a back and forth battle Sunday afternoon.

The two teams played evenly matched soccer throughout the entirety of the game. The Fighting Saints (2-2-1) scored the only goal of the match on a free kick from McKenna Payne with 11:28 left in the second half.

"I was proud of our girls," head coach Brian Clarke said. "They played hard. Something we've been talking about has been putting a 90-minute game together and I thought we did. Even after we went down with that goal late we were still trying to push for a goal. I'm really happy and proud of them even though the result wasn't what we wanted."

The Argos (0-5, 0-5) were aggressive offensively, attempting a total of 11 shots. Brittany Burman led the team in attempts with five.

"I wanted to score a goal today," Clarke said. "We had opportunities, we just couldn't get it done."

The Fighting Saints attempted a total of 18 shots and took five corner kicks. The Argos took seven corner kicks.

The game was the first home game of the season for the Argos, who started out with four straight road games. The game also served as Senior Day for the seven seniors on the roster – Soraya Alfaro, Isabel Cardenas, Shawnae Inama, Dakota Neumann, Sarah Ortega, Kate Sisler and Bri Wikert

"This has been a tremendous group," Clarke said. "It's always tough to see a group leave. They have been leaders for this program. They lead not only on the field but off the field. We're really proud of this group. They'll be missed."

The two teams will battle again tomorrow at 12 p.m.
