GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's soccer team fell to Carroll 4-0 on Monday in the final home game of the season.
The Fighting Saints (3-2-1) got on the board early when Blair Stapleton found the back of the net in the fourth minute. The Saints followed that up with two back to back goals, with Melissa Dugger scoring in the 22
nd minute and Stapleton scoring again in the 25
th minute. Stapleton scored her third goal in the 42
nd minute to push the lead to 4-0.
The Argos (0-6, 0-6) settled into the game in the second half, outshooting the Saints eight to six. Despite multiple attacking opportunities, the team wasn't able to convert them into goals.
"We played better in the second half," head coach
Brian Clarke said. "We need to learn how to overcome adversity. We went down early in the match and we have to fight through that."
The Argos attempted a total of 11 shots.
Shawnae Inama led the team in attempts with four, three of which were on goal. Defensively,
Dakota Neumann recorded seven saves and
Jenna Evertz recorded two.
The game marks the final home game for the Argos, who only played two home games on the season. They will travel to Rocky Mountain College next Monday and Tuesday to take on the Battlin' Bears for the final two games of the season.
"It was nice to play at home," Clarke said. "We have to focus on improving this week so we can end our season the right way."
