Argos Conclude Opening Weekend at Bobcat Rodeo

BOZEMAN, Mont. – The University of Providence rodeo team finished their first weekend of competition amidst adverse weather conditions at the Bobcat Spring Rodeo in Billings, Mont.

The team had to deal with headwinds of up to 30 MPH during the both the barrell racing and breakaway roping. No Argo made it to the short round Sunday morning.

"It was a weather deal," head coach Sylvan La Cross said. "The snowstorm last night was a twist for everybody. It was quite different. We had to deal with extreme diversity and we definitely drew the short end of the straw in the luck category."

Despite the performance, the team came away with many positives. First and foremost, the team as a whole was glad to use the rodeo to shake off the rust after not having competed since September of 2019.

"We're rodeoing," La Cross said. "Overall the kids were upset with some of their performances, but they're just happy to go out and do it."

The team will have a short turnaround to work out the kinks as they prepare for the Miles City Rodeo next weekend.

"We're going to step back and deal with everyone as individuals," La Cross said. "We're going to go back and figure out where we can improve. We need to fix the little mistakes in our positioning, with our roping. We're going to be indoors next week in a smaller arena so we won't have to worry about the weather. I'm excited to see what we can accomplish."
