GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence softball team fell in two closely contested matches on Friday. The Argos (4-21, 4-16) lost to the Knights (15-19, 8-13) 4-1 in the first game and 3-2 in the second game.
"There were a lot of positives today but ultimately we couldn't get it done," head coach
Joey Egan said. "Both times I thought we had them and then we ultimately couldn't finish."
The Argos had the lead for a majority of the first game, after Gracie Fleming scored a run off a single from
McKenna Montgomery. The Knights responded big in the sixth inning however, scoring four runs to secure the victory.
The Argos got an early lead again in the second game when
Taylor Mathews scored on a passed ball. Alexis Morrow evened in the score in the bottom of the third inning off a double from Payton Hergert.
The score remained even until the bottom of the sixth inning, when the Knights scored two runs. The Argos fought hard, with
Taylor Mathews scoring
Macy Mangold in the top of the seventh, but it was the only run the Argos could muster.
The Argos outhit the Knights in both games. Peyton Elliot went a perfect three for three in the first game, while
Ashlee Anderson,
Macy Mangold and
Taylor Mathews all recorded two hits for the Argos in the second.
The two teams will return to the diamond tomorrow for another doubleheader. The first game will begin at 11 a.m. with the second occurring at 1 p.m.
