EAGLE, Idaho – The University of Providence golf team completed the first round of the Frontier Conference Championship Monday in Eagle, Idaho.
The women's team is currently in 5
th place. The men's team didn't have enough players to field a team and are only competing individually.
Individually,
Jonny Cielak is currently in 11
th place with a score of 81. He is eight strokes behind the leaders; Sean Ramsbacher of Montana Tech and Mitch Thiessen of Rocky Mountain.
Colton Stodghill is ranked 12
th place with an 86, while
Ben Kaul is tied for 13
th at 87.
"I think the boys expected to do better than they did," head coach
Spencer Williams said. "They started out tough with the wind and couldn't turn it around. I know they're disappointed but I'm looking forward to them bouncing back."
On the women's side, Kieler Jones is the highest ranked Argo, coming in at 14
th place with a 102.
Kate Murack is currently 16
th at 104.
"The girls as a group didn't struggle too bad off the tee," Williams said. "I'm expecting them to sure up their short game. The course is pretty intimidating. I look for there scores to go down with them having played this golf course two times in a row now. They ended the day on a positive note. They know they're going to do better. They know what they need to improve on personally so I expect them to keep going."
Both teams will look to climb up the leaderboard in the second round of the tournament. The second round will begin on Tuesday at 8 a.m, with the final round occurring on Wednesday.
