ATLANTA, Ga. – The University of Providence women's basketball team finished eighth in the nation in the
Women's Basketball Coaches Association Academic Top 25 Honor Roll. This is the 10th time in Argos history that they been included on the list, all of which have occurred in the last 11 years.
The Argos finished the year with a team GPA of 3.678. They were the highest ranked team in the Frontier Conference, as Carroll finished 15
th (3.589) while Montana Tech finished 24
th (3.499). Taylor University topped the NAIA list with a team GPA of 3.777.
"I'm just thrilled at how our girls continue to excel in the classroom," head coach
Bill Himmelberg said. "It's exciting to be in the mix for the top spot. I'm just really proud of the effort our girls give in the classroom day in and day out, especially in a year with such unusual circumstances."
Nine players from the Argos were named Academic All-Conference this past season:
Kenedy Cartwright (business administration/organizational leadership),
Parker Esary (organizational leadership),
Brooklyn Harn (exercise science),
Sam Holman (accounting),
Emilee Maldonado (biology),
Kerstyn Pimperton (biology),
Elly Teske (biology),
Grace Weber (biology) and
Brittany White (biology) all received Academic All-Conference recognition.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2020-21 season is the 26th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
