BILLINGS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's soccer fell to Rocky Mountain College 4-1 in a non-conference game in Billings, Mont. on Friday.
The Battlin' Bears (3-0-1) got off to a quick start, scoring a goal in the 20
th minute followed by a second goal 15 minutes later to take a two-goal lead. The Argos (0-2) responded two minutes later when
Cassidee Whitehead found the back of the net, cutting the deficit to one. However, the Battlin' Bears responded with another goal a minute later. The Bears added one more in the second half to make it 4-1.
"We did score a goal which is always a nice thing," head coach
Heather Blandford said. "But we weren't as organized as we needed to be defensively. That's still something that we need to work on. Rocky is a really quality team and they performed really, really well today. We struggled to match their intensity a little bit which we need to learn from going into this game tomorrow and going into conference play next week."
The Argos attempted three shots on the day, one each from
Dani Chang,
Marti Ludwick and Whitehead.
Jenna Evertz got her second start in the net, recording five saves.
The Argos will have to put this game behind them quickly, as they have another tough game against Jamestown, a team that is receiving votes in the
NAIA National Poll, tomorrow. The game will kick off at 12:00 p.m. in Billings.
"We need to evaluate what we did well, because there were some things that we did well," Blandford said. "Then we really need to take a look at those things that we need to improve on and change quickly from a tactical perspective to put us in a better chance of performing better tomorrow. We need to take a look at these losses, and not accept them or settle for them, but be open to learn from those opportunities and continue to grow from them."
