WHITEFISH, Mont. – After
winning all four games at the Frontier Conference Preseason Tournament this past weekend, two University of Providence volleyball players were named the ERCK Hotels Frontier Conference Players of the Week on Monday.
Cydney Finberg-Roberts was named the Frontier Conference Setter of the Week, while
Sadie Lott was named the Frontier Conference Attacker of the Week. This is the fourth time that Finberg-Roberts has won the award this season, and the second time for Lott.
"It's pretty cool recognition, especially against the quality competition that we've seen this non-conference season," head coach
Arunas Duda said. "We played a lot of ranked teams in the non-conference, so it's pretty impressive for this group of girls to win this amount of awards."
Finberg-Roberts was dominant this past weekend and was a big reason for the four wins the #10 Argos accumulated over the weekend. The redshirt-senior from Columbia Falls, Mont. had three games over 40 assists, and had her third game of the season over 50 assists when she recorded 53 against Rocky Mountain College. For the weekend, Finberg-Roberts averaged 11.6 assists per set. She was also active defensively, recording 38 digs and five blocks during the course of the tournament.
"I thought Fin played extremely well this weekend," Duda said. "She was so smart and tactical in every match. When things got tough she relaxed us a bit. She did a great job or recognizing the situation and then following through with it."
Lott was also a major catalyst for the team's success in Havre. Over the course of the four games the team played, Lott recorded 49 kills on a .290 hitting percentage, good for 3.4 kills per set. Lott has recorded double-digit kills in all but two games this season.
She also stepped up defensively on the weekend, notching 47 digs and ten blocks.
"Sadie played great this weekend," Duda said. "There's no doubt that she is one of our go-to hitters. I know our opponents know who she is and a lot of the time she's the first person they want to stop, but she still finds a way to make an impact for our team. It's very impressive what she's doing."
The duo will look to have big time performances this Friday, when the Argos open conference play with a big road game against #15 Montana Tech. The game will tip off at 7:00 p.m. in Butte, Mont.
