BELGRADE, Mont. – Playing the toughest competition they'll see all season, the University of Providence men's wrestling team fell to #11 Iowa State 49-0 Sunday afternoon in a neutral-site dual in Belgrade, Mont.
"It may be unrealistic for our program to go win a dual like that, but there were places where we still feel like we need to compete to the best of our ability," head coach
Steve Komac said. "There's places that we want to compete a little harder. We are capable of competing harder in places. You certainly have to give credit where credit is due. The level of where their program is at is unbelievable."
The Cyclones defeated rival MSU-Northern by the same score earlier in the day. The dual was created to honor Cyclone senior Jarrett Degen, who is from Belgrade.
The Argos (3-4) will use the experience as they spend the week preparing for the Missouri Valley Invite, which will feature some of the top teams from around the country.
"Our competition is good this week," Komac said. "It's NAIA competition but it's the best in the country. For us, it felt like a very good opportunity to do today just to remind ourselves how much battling we need to do. Today was like a good hard workout and we'll use that going forward."
