CORVALLIS, Ore. – Three wrestlers from the University of Providence men's wrestling team were named to the U.S. Bank Academic All-Conference, the Cascade Collegiate Conference
announced on Wednesday.
Christian Balagso,
Boone Giulio and
Josh Pepos were all recognized with the honor. To be named to the Academic All-Conference team, a student-athlete must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 and be at least a sophomore academically.
"I'm very proud of those guys for managing to succeed at both ends the student-athlete experience," head coach
Steve Komac said. "It's great to have those guys involved in our program. They're all very-committed to their education alongside their athletic career. They recognize that we're all going to be done competing someday and there's a future past that."
Komac said the three wrestlers are role models for the program and exemplify what he wants all his wrestlers to strive to achieve.
"It's definitely something that we talk to our guys about all the time," Komac said. "It's very important to us. In the recruiting process it's something that we're looking at hard. When you don't take care of your studies, it gets in the way and causes problems. It's definitely something that we're looking at a lot."
The Argos will return to the mat this weekend at the Missouri Valley Invite in Marshall, Mo. The event will begin on Friday, Jan. 21 at 9:00 a.m.
