CORVALLIS, Ore. – Four wrestlers from the University of Providence women's wrestling team were named to the U.S. Bank Academic All-Conference Team, the Cascade Collegiate Conference
announced on Wednesday.
Brooke Cicierski,
Ashley Gooman,
Ira Navarro,
Teina Niutupuivaha,
Genesis Rialmo and
Angie Sletten were all recognized with the honor. To be named to the Academic All-Conference team, a student-athlete must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 and be at least a sophomore academically.
"It's a pretty cool honor," head coach
Matt Atwood said. "I'm happy for them. They did their job and got things done. They're all taking care of business."
Atwood said the characteristics modeled by the four are exactly what he looks for in a student-athlete while he's recruiting.
"They encompass what we're looking for in athletes," Atwood said. "Ashley and Ira are both captains for us. Genesis has been on top of her business from the start. She takes on a really heavy load and is involved in the church here on campus. Her and Ashley are both RAs on campus. Angie has always been on top of things and is very involved in campus. There's not any worry in my mind when it comes to the four of them."
The Argos will be off until Feb. 5 when they travel to Iowa for the Grand View Open.
