Portland, Ore. - The Providence women's soccer team battled for 90 minutes on the road against Warner Pacific looking for a win to break a tie with the Knights for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Cascade Conference. However, a header in the 56th minute from Olivia Stumetz proved just enough as WPU squeaked out a 1-0 victory.

The two teams played a scoreless draw in the first 45 minutes with the Argos offense getting six shots in the first half. For the match, Providence outshot Warner Pacific 17-11 and had an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Knights goal came after Reilyn Davis made an initial stop on a shot by Kiya Gramps, but the rebound deflected to Stumetz for the goal, her 2nd of the season. Dani Chang fired six shots for the Argos, three of which were on goal. Dani Waialeale had four shots, three SOG. Taylor Ward added two shots on goal for Providence. Davis, normally a midfielder, playing her sixth match in the goal stopped five shots as the Argos fall to 2-10-1 overall, 2-7-1 in the CCC. Warner Pacific picks up three points and now sits 6-7-2 on the season and 3-5-1 in league play. Providence Head Coach Heather Blandford was disappointed with the loss, but not the effort, "I was pleased with our overall effort. Unfortunately, we did not find a way to put the ball in the back of the net and they did. We will regroup and look forward to getting back out there tomorrow.

The Providence men allowed five first half goals enroute to a 9-0 loss to WPU. Andrew Martinez scored 37 seconds into the match and was credited with another goal just over three minutes later. Hunter Leach added two goals for the 20th ranked Knights who run their season long win streak to 15 and sit unbeaten at 15-0 on the season. WPU outshot the Argos 25-3 and 17-3 in shots on goal. Seven different Knights scored goals in the match which drops the Argos to 0-10-1 on the season, 0-8-1 in the Cascade. Jack Rimstad had two SOG with Tomeu Nebot getting one. Head Coach Will Hander says the Argos played well in stretches, "The score line does not reflect it, but we had some good moments of playing. I am proud of our guys. They kept battling when it was difficult. We will get a good rest and get ready for tomorrow."

The Providence men and women close out the road portion of the regular season Saturday when they play at Multnomah. The Lion women are 2-10-1 on the season, the men are 7-7-1. The women's match starts at 1 PM MDT followed by the guys. Both matches can be watched along with live stats at www.upargos.com.
