Women's soccer earns much needed road win

Argos beat Multnomah 2-0 as Chang and Burman score goals

Portland, Ore. - Missing a chance to pick up a win and three points Friday, the University of Providence women's soccer team was facing a must-win situation Saturday to keep its playoff hopes alive. With goals from Dani Chang and Brittany Burman in the second half, the Argos picked up a 2-0 road win at Multnomah (Ore.). After playing a scoreless first half, Chang was able to find the back of the net in the 53rd minute that turned out the be the game winner. Burman put the match on ice in the 68th minute.

Chang's goal was her third of the season and second game winner. Providence outshot the Lions 8-5 with all eight Argo shots coming on goal. Head Coach Heather Blandford says the win came at a good time, "Today was a big win for us. We were a team that was determined to compete, and it showed in our effort, tough defensive pressure, and our confidence to take risks in our attacking to put the ball in the back of the net. I am extremely proud of how our team responded."

Kaitlyn Sisler stopped all four shots she faced to pick up the win in goal. With the victory, and a Rocky Mountain win over Warner Pacific, Providence moves back into a tie with the Knights for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Cascade Conference postseason which starts in two weeks. UP and WPU each have 10 points, although the Knights own the tiebreak based on Friday's win over the Argos. Providence has just one match remaining, at home next week against Carroll College. Warner Pacific has two road games left, at Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon. If the Argos beat or tie Carroll, and the Knights lose both, Providence would get into the postseason.
