Great Falls, Mont. - One win is good. Two wins is great. Three wins straight, that is called a winning streak and that is what the University of Providence men's soccer team has given themselves after the Argos picked up a 3-1 win over Walla Walla University (Wash.) Friday afternoon. Senior Cedric Andriantarji scored his first goals of the season and Jack Rimstad also found the back of the net for the Argos who have won consecutive matches after starting the season winless. Rimstad added an assist as did Tomeu Nebot.
Providence scored first when Andriantarji scored in the 21st minute off a beautiful cross from Rimstad. Rimstad added his goal in the 40th minute. The Wolves lone goal came off a rebound when Addison Dobbs slipped a shot past Dante Montgomery. Andriantarji's second goal came less than four minutes into the second half as he stepped in front of a Walla Walla pass and essentially blocked it into the goal. The Argos outshot the Wolves 16-7, including a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. Tensions heated up late in the match when Jose Mejia pulled down Mario Arias in the backfield earning a red card. Arias received a yellow card and cooler heads prevailed the rest of the way.
The effort for a full 90 minutes for a second straight match was good to see for Providence Head Coach Will Hander, "Extremely proud of the guys and the way we played. We did a good job controlling the game and our emotions. I am excited to get back out tomorrow and send our seniors off with a win."
The Argos (2-10-1, 2-8-1) host Carroll College on the pitch Saturday. It will be senior day as Providence honors Andriantarji along with Joel Samoya. Action will follow the women's game beginning at approximately 3:30 PM. To watch the match, visit www.upargos.com.
