UP Volleyball beats Montana Western in four Friday

Argos win 2nd straight match at home

Jason Walker, UP Sports Information Director

Great Falls, Mont. - Make it back-to-back Frontier Conference wins for the University of Providence volleyball team after the Argos picked up a four-set win over Montana Western Friday night in Great Falls. The Argos and Bulldogs played even for the first two sets, with Providence coming out on top before UMW responded to take the third set only to see the Argos jump out to an 8-0 lead in the fourth winning 26-24, 25-23, 17-25, 25-12.

UP totaled 51 kills against just 22 errors to improve to 9-17 overall, 2-6 in conference play. Jenna Thorne compiled 16 kills while Adysen Burns added 10 kills and 20 digs. Bella Thompson tallied 45 assists in the victory. Duda says the team keeps improving and closing out the match after falling in the third set was key, "Really good response in that fourth set. They did a nice job of starting the match strong, being consistent. I think Bella is learning a lot, she is really improving. Her location was a little off tonight but her decision making I thought really improved throughout the match and you could see that.

"We were able to take advantage of some mismatches and I think our two captains are doing a tremendous job of leadership. Taylor Christensen on the defensive end, and Adysen from every aspect. They have really set the tone for our improvement and what we are doing."

Western was led by Jazi Smith who had 13 kills with Kaylee Kopp adding 10. Kaylee Fritz had 36 assists for the Bulldogs who fall to 9-14 on the season and sit 1-6 in the Frontier. UMW next plays Saturday at MSU-Northern. Providence went 2-0 this week at home and travels to Carroll College next Thursday.
