La Grande, Ore. - Coming off a weekend in which they were outscored 11-0, the University of Providence men's soccer team traveled to La Grande, Ore. looking for a better result. One could argue that despite a 1-0 loss at Eastern Oregon, the result was a much-improved Argo team. A goal from Dawson Huett in the 16th minute was the lone goal for the Mountaineers and that held up over the final 74 minutes. Sam Fingers kept the Argos in the match while the defense was able to deny EOU time after time. The Providence offense played well in defeat, keeping pressure on the Mounties. Tomeu Nebot had three shots, two of which were on goal making Dalton Mauzay produce five total saves for the shutout.
Head Coach Will Hander was pleased with how his team played Friday night, "We bounced back very well but fell just short in the overall result. Proud of the guys and the way we played." Providence sits 0-6-1, 0-5-1 and will play Saturday night at the College of Idaho.
Earlier in the evening Friday, Chloe Narolski earned a brace, and four other Eastern Oregon women found the back of the net in a 6-0 win over the Argo women. Five of the Mountaineers goals came in a relentless first half as the 24th ranked team in the NAIA had 12 shots in the first half. Brittany Burman and Dani Waialeale each had two shots and one shot on goal in the loss which drops Providence to 1-7-1 overall, 1-4-1 in Cascade Conference play. Macee Cook allowed all six goals on 12 SOG. Head Coach Heather Blandford says the Argos have recently seen some of the best teams in the Cascade, "EOU is a very talented team with a tradition of success. We are a team that is just beginning that journey and we need to compete in these types of games, so we learn what it takes to get there. Tomorrow does not get any easier as we travel to another ranked opponent in College of Idaho. Our goal is to get a little better each time we step on the field."
The Providence women will kick off with COI at 5:30 PM with the men to follow at 8 PM. Both matches along with live stats can be watched at www.upargos.com.
